Supporting CSI energy literacy and environmental stewardship programs

The Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) has been awarded a $5,000 grant from Dominion Energy North Carolina to create and offer educational programs focused on energy literacy and environmental stewardship. The project is funded by the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Energy North Carolina. CSI’s project will take place during the 2018-2019 school year and target eighth to 12th grade Physics, Physical Science, Earth and Environmental, and AP Environmental Science classes in northeast North Carolina.

With this grant, CSI’s energy literacy program will reach approximately 220 students across Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Tyrrell Counties. The program will include hands-on, experiential learning at CSI, as well as pre-visit and post-visit classroom materials.

Here, Pam Pekrun, External Affairs Manager with Dominion Energy North Carolina, presents the award to John McCord, CSI's Assistant Director of Public Engagement and Outreach.
