Open auditions for Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe
Auditions August 21 and 28 at 7 p.m. and August 24 at 4 p.m.
Dare Arts Council, 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo
Edgar Allan Poe stands alone in the flickering darkness of his mind, trying desperately to convince himself -- and us -- that he's not mad. The spell he weaves brings us a highly theatrical adaptation of five tales Poe himself considered his best: "The Raven", "The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Pit and the Pendulum", and "The Tell-Tale Heart". Enter the world of Poe and check your heartbeat at the door.
We can cast as few as five or as many as eleven actors in this production. Ages and genders, are, for the most part, adaptable. What we're looking for is an ability to bring a brooding, palpable sense of dread and fear to the stage for our production, which will be performed at the Lost Colony's Soundstage October 18-20 & 25-27.
For auditions, we're asking that our actors prepare a one-minute section of The Raven to perform as a monologue. We will also be cold reading from the script. It will also be helpful to familiarize yourself with the five stories mentioned above.
