Meet Jo Watson Hackl
Eleven days, thirteen clues and one kid who won't give up. That's the premise behind North Carolina writer Jo Watson Hackl's debut middle-grade novel, Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe. In this 2018 Summer Kids Indie Next Pick, she tells the story of twelve year old Cricket, and her pet cricket Charlene, who find adventure in a ghost town in Mississippi, following a trail of clues in search of a secret room (that may not exist) all to try and win back Charlene's mother. Refugee author Alan Gratz pronounced the book 'part treasure hunt, part wilderness adventure and all heart' and the book is quickly becoming a must- read among 4/5th graders.
Jo will be appearing at Downtown Books in Manteo on Friday, November 9 from 3:15pm - 4:15pm for a short book signing before heading off to her next stop.
