Grizelle Fearing, judge Annalee Lanier, artist Bobby Wiltshire and Dare County Arts Council staff member Janet Wiltshire with Bobby Wiltshire’s watercolor ‘Blue Gate,’ which was honored with the Best in Show sponsored by Lucky 12 Tavern award at the 22nd Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show.
‘The Fearing building gate caught my eye months ago and I had to catch a time when the sun was hitting just right to create the shadows I wanted,’ said Wiltshire.
Awards were also presented to Mary Edwards, who won the Excellence Award sponsored by the Willey Agency for her watercolor ‘Nags Head Pier, Deep Water’; Mary Ann Remer with mixed media ‘Window. Morning. Early.’ took the Excellence Award sponsored by the Outer Banks Forum; Excellence Awards sponsored by Zillie’s Island Pantry & Mollie A. Fearing & Associates went to Paul Newman’s etching ‘Off Broadway’ and Linda Lauby’s ‘Pea Island and 1870 Chart: KDH to Loggerhead Inlet,’ layered photos and historic nautical chart;
Honorable Mentions sponsored by Zillie’s Island Pantry & Mollie A. Fearing & Associates went to Tracy Bell "Tobacco Season" (acrylic), Shelley Booth "Limonata" (watercolor) and Judith Saunders "Rivers of Copper and Paper" (hand-painted watercolor paper and copper).
The People’s Choice Award went to Alla Rossow’s collage ‘Sunflowers.’ The show will be on display at the Dare County Arts Council in downtown Manteo through June 1.
