Sandlot Tournament Benefit

A had a great weekend of baseball despite the chilly temperatures at the 4th Annual Cape Hatteras Sandlot Tournament. Currituck County took home their 2nd consecutive Sandlot Championship behind great pitching and defense in a 1-0 thriller of a championship game vs. the Bear Grass Charter School Bears.

All of the baseball and softball teams represented their schools and communities very well and it resulted in some great fellowship, baseball, and softball. Here are a few highlights from the weekend... Our cancer awareness event between games on Saturday was a huge success with 6 teams represented on the field as we paid tribute to those loved ones in each of our lives that have fought or are fighting cancer.

Special thanks to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation for their help in making this event a success. The canned food drive was a huge success as well, with visiting teams and spectators donating 350 non-perishable food items to the Hatteras Island Food Pantry at the Buxton United Methodist Church. There were many great performances throughout the weekend with spectacular defensive plays and big hits coming at the right time.

The post game awards ceremony was how we capped off the weekend and here are the results... Tournament Champions - Currituck County High School Tournament MVP - Austin Pace - Currituck County John Jacobs Memorial Award - Tanner Lyle - Bear Grass Charter All Tournament Team Cole Bates - Currituck Jackson Gay - Currituck Will Langley - Currituck Cannon Pickell - Currituck Jordan Leggett - Bear Grass Joseph Perry - Bear Grass Leland Stotesberry - Bear Grass Tyler Day - Manteo Corbin Tillett - Manteo John Canning - Cape Hatteras We would like to thank all of our sponsors for making the Sandlot Tournament possible and we look forward to next year being even better.
