Gary Gross, Clerk to the Dare County Board of Commissioners, was joined by his wife Janis and honored by Board Chairman Bob Woodard at the commissioners' June 17 meeting. Gross is set to retire on June 30, and this was his final board meeting.

Declaring that 'there is not a more dedicated human being working for the county than Gary Gross,' Woodard presented Gross a Certificate of Appreciation from the board, thanking him for his '20 years of distinguished service to Dare County' and his 'unwavering support, strong work ethic and steadfast commitment to serving the citizens of Dare County.'

He also presented the Old North State Award signed by Governor Roy Cooper for 'dedication and service beyond expectation and excellence to the Great State of North Carolina.' Gross began working for Dare County's Emergency Medical Services in 1999 and started serving as Clerk to the Board in 2011.
