10:15 a.m.: Power has been restored to most of Hatteras Island and all of Ocracoke Island. Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo are still out. Crews are in the Waves substation working to correct the issue now.

9 a.m. Dominion Energy has cleared their lines to the Oregon Inlet substation. CHEC crews are now working to test the transmission line south of the substation. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. Thank you for your continued patience.
 
News of the outage comes from Cape Hatteras EC twitter account, here's what they reported as of 7 a.m. this morning:
7:05 a.m.: We are currently experiencing a power outage affecting all of Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island. Crews are investigating. Updates to follow. The cause of the outage affecting Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands is on Dominion's side. Crews have been dispatched. We will update as soon as we have more information.
