Two pedestrians killed in Kitty Hawk
Charges pending against driver
Two pedestrians have died after being hit by a truck in the area of N.C. 12 and Maynard Street in Kitty Hawk on April 1, according to information from the Kitty Hawk Police Department. The victims included one adult male and one adult female. A child also struck in the accident was taken to the Outer Banks Hospital with minor injuries and released.
Kitty Hawk Police report that the driver has been interviewed and charges are pending. Because there is an ongoing investigation into the accident, no names have been publicly released at this time.
An April 2 update on the Kitty Hawk Police Facebook page reported that the victims were following state law and walking north on N.C. 12 on the southbound side on the shoulder of the road. The driver of the pickup truck was traveling in the northbound lane. The driver fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the center line and struck the two adults and a child.
