Last September, Manteo High School inaugurated its sports Hall of Fame project by inducting its first 16 members. On this coming Friday, Sept. 7, the second class of six honorees — five players and one coach — will be inducted at halftime of Manteo’s home game against Bear Grass Charter.

Greg Creef

(Class of 1978)

Football and Baseball.

Football: three-time All- Conference, played in 1974 State Championship. Member of 1977 All-East Team. Played in North/South football game. Baseball: two-time All-Conference. Member of 1976 State Championship team. Attended Chowan University.

Bryan Sullivan

(Class of 1982)

Golf and Basketball.

Golf: Undefeated high school match record. Campbell University Independent High School Champion, 1982 Athlete of Year. Attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Member of 3 ACC Championship golf teams and 4 NCAA Tournament teams. All- ACC in 1986. Winner of 1983 North/South Amateur. Played on the PGA Tour. 1996 Carolinas PGA Player of the Year.

Wilhelmenia McClease

(Class of 1983)

Basketball and Softball.

Basketball: two-time All-Conference. 1983 All Albemarle, All Region, and Defensive Player of Year. Chowan University Basketball: All East Region First Team, MVP Atlantic Christian College.

Micky Haywood

(Class of 1989)

Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Tennis.

Basketball: four-time All-Conference, four-time MVP, four-time All-Tournament, four-time All Albemarle, All East, All State, Scored 1,942 career points at MHS. Softball: three-time All-Conference, All Albemarle Volleyball: All Conference, MVP. Tennis: All Conference, 1989 Female Athlete of Year. Attended UNC Greensboro.

Julie Farrow Bliven

(Class of 1984)

Basketball, Softball, Tennis.

Basketball: two-time All-Conference, two-time All-Tournament team. Softball: three-time All Albemarle, four-time All-Conference, three-time MVP. Tennis: three-time MVP. 1984 Female Athlete of Year. Attended East Carolina University. Taught and coached at Manteo High School from 1989-2001, coached basketball and softball.

Coach Adrian O. Ayers

1938 – 1960

Teacher and Coach at Manteo High School.

Coached football, girls basketball, and baseball. Football field and gymnasium at old Manteo High School named in his honor. Scholarship by Lions Club named in his honor. Served in WWII. Attended East Carolina University.
